- I am currently interning at Capital Innovators—a startup accelerator based in St. Louis, MO—as a contributing blogger and due diligence assistant.
- 2016: Private Banking Summer Analyst at J.P. Morgan in Chicago, IL
- 2015: Intern at Fisher Investments in Portland, OR
Describe your dream Job: My dream job would be any role at Google Ventures. I would be working with the brightest individuals across varying industries, meeting inspiring and ambitious entrepreneurs, and following the tech industry as part of my job. Not to mention—I’d just love to work for Google someday.
Who is your favorite professor? I’d have to say Bill Turpin. He had an extremely successful career in Silicon Valley and recently returned to Columbia to be the CEO of the Missouri Innovation Center and mentor local entrepreneurs. He is generous with his time and knowledge and truly loves helping students learn through experience.
What did you enjoy most about majoring in a business-related field? I love collaborating with others to reach a common goal, so I enjoyed the amount of team projects and presentations required in my business courses.
Where would you like to work after graduation? I will be returning to J.P. Morgan as a Private Banking Analyst.
What are your long-term professional goals? In a few years, my goal is to attend a top MBA program in one of the more vibrant startup ecosystems. Ultimately I’d like to start my own company. It is difficult to say what will come after that—depending on my experience I might want to start another company or pursue a career on the investment side.
What advice would you give to a student looking to major in a business-related field? It is never too early to start building relationships and adding to your network, and you never know who could end up being of great value to you in the future.

What was the happiest moment of your life? When David Novak hugged me on stage at the 2016 MU Homecoming Hall of Fame luncheon. He is the founder and former CEO of Yum! Brands among many other impressive accomplishments, and I look up to him greatly as a business leader.
Which academic, extracurricular or personal achievement are you most proud of? I am most proud of the efforts I put toward leading Mizzou Homecoming 2016—that was a pivotal year for our university and it was an honor to serve my institution in such a substantial way. We made significant strides in creating a more inclusive tradition, doubled campus organization involvement, and collected 4,100+ units of blood and 33,000+ pounds of food. This leadership role defined my Mizzou experience and instilled more school pride in me than I thought possible.
What animal would you choose to represent your professional brand? My first choice would be a golden retriever, as they are associated with being very friendly and intelligent.
Who would you most want to thank for your success? I would most want to thank my parents for raising me exactly as they did and supporting me without fail thus far in my life—I attribute much of my success to them. I’d also need to thank my best friend, Morgan Olenski, and my brother—these two are both young entrepreneurs and are significant sources of inspiration for me.
What would you like your business school peers to say about you after you graduate from this program? “If I ever have a great business idea, I’m definitely going to reach out to Katelyn. She’d be the ideal teammate.”

Favorite movie: The Bourne Trilogy
Favorite musical performer: this one is tough for me—I’ll go with The Head and the Heart
Favorite vacation spot: Yosemite National Park
What are your hobbies? In my spare time, I like to read books and blogs written by entrepreneurs and VCs, but I often find myself planning my next escape to the mountains. I am also a health nut—I love to cook and exercise.
What made Katelyn such an invaluable addition to the Class of 2017?
“Katelyn’s enthusiasm about Mizzou and the Trulaske College of Business is infectious! This past year Katelyn served as one of the tri-directors for Mizzou’s Homecoming.In this campus-level leadership position, Katelyn coordinated many events for the week including the blood drive and talent competition. Katelyn also worked with our Alumni Association in this role representing the university to a wide range of individuals.
Katelyn has also been active within Trulaske. She serves as one of our student Ambassadors, meeting with prospective students and their families as well as other guests in the college. She is a member of the Allen Angel Capital Education Fund, a mix of class and student organization that researches and invests in local startups. Katelyn has balanced these activities with being extremely successful academically. She is a part of the university’s Honors College and has earned a spot on the Dean’s List each semester. Katelyn is a prime example of being successful in and outside the classroom at Mizzou.”
