2016 Rankings Report Card: How Alums Grade Their Schools

How would you rate the quality of teaching in business courses?

Great learning requires great teaching. Yet, the truth is that often some of the most prestigious schools in the world often put rookie professors and mediocre faculty in front of students, especially undergrads. But a great teacher does more than teach. He or she inspires, and that is the kind of teaching we were looking for when we asked alumni to rate the quality of teaching in business courses. We specifically asked about the courses they took in business school—and not the courses they sat through in other colleges or departments.

Whose faculty got the highest scores? The outright winner surprised even us. It was the University of Texas-Austin McCombs School of Business, followed by University of Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business, Texas Christian University’s Neeley School of Business, Emory University’s Goizueta School of Business, and Wake Forest University’s School of Business. On our ten-point scale, undergraduate programs scored between 9.42 and 8.16, with an average score of 8.85. So few students who attend these schools are likely to have a very disappointing experience when it comes to teaching quality.
