Olin Correspondent: Officially a WashU Alum

It’s crazy to think that it has been six years since I first set foot on WashU’s campus while touring my junior year of high school. Now, I am officially a WashU alum. It is crazy how fast these past four years have gone by and how much the school has grown and evolved since I arrived. I have seen the introduction to the new business building — Knight and Bauer Hall — my freshman year and I leave with the construction of what will be a beautiful, entirely new, east end of campus. I am already getting excited for alumni weekend next April … only 318 days … but who’s counting?

Cheers to the Class of 2018! Let’s never stop learning and never stop asking questions. Photo courtesy of Marni Widen

Olin has been a huge part of my time at WashU and looking back over the past four years I realized how much it has changed me. From not being able to publicly speak at all my first year, to introducing an alumni speaker this past year, I am grateful for how my business degree has helped me grow both personally and professionally. Without Olin, how could I have reached 500+ connections on LinkedIn or mastered the art of fitting my resume onto one page? But seriously, Olin has prepared me for the real world and has made it a bit less scary to start my first job. I will definitely miss being surrounded by such humble, yet brilliant students as well as having the opportunity to learn new things every day. I hope to keep this mindset going as I start my career and never stop learning and asking questions (because I’m sure I will have a ton of those).

I am so thankful for my four amazing years at WashU and Olin and I hope every college student realizes how quickly it goes by and remembers every moment because before they know it, they will be graduating too. Hopefully it won’t be in the pouring rain like our commencement ceremony was. St. Louis weather was at its finest that morning.

Thanks again to Poets&Quants for allowing me to share my WashU experience with everyone — I hope my posts were meaningful or at least gave you a good laugh! Writing these posts gave me the opportunity to reflect on my time in college and business school which, I quickly realized, was not something I did often enough. I wish everyone who graduated — both high school and college — the best of luck on the next chapter of their lives.

Cheers to the Class of 2018! We did it!
