As a private Roman Catholic University in South Orange, New Jersey, Seton Hall University’s Stillman School of Business believes that leaders need to “learn to make a difference.” This year, the B-School landed at No. 61 in our 2023 rankings – down 9 places from last year’s No. 50 in our 2022 rankings.

The acceptance rate was 76% for the most recent incoming class, which was a tad less selective than last year’s 72.83% acceptance rate. The most recent incoming class’s SAT average was 1285 – down slightly from last year’s score of 1288.

As far as career outcomes go, Stillman shared that a solid 67% of the Class of 2023 landed a business-specific internship before graduation – down some from last year’s 76.50% for the Class of 2022. A good 86.02% of the Class of 2023 secured a full-time job within three months of graduation, down from last year compared to last year’s 95.06% for the Class of 2022.

Of the three methodological categories, Stillman placed best in the Academic Experience category at No. 35.

CURRICULUM

On top of the usual concentration offerings in Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Legal Studies, Management Information, Management, Marketing, Marketing, and Sport Management, Stillman School of Business also offers a Leadership Development Honors Program, that has consistently ranked No.1 in the nation for four years in the LEAD Awards sponsored by HR.com. The program was specifically named the No. 1 Certificate Program with Emphasis on Leadership/ Organizational Development.

As part of the program, students take a course called Ideas & Trends, where junior year students are guided to think about innovative technology, engage in fieldwork, and collaborate to identify ideas and trends and explore how they connect with the future. The experience is intended at preparing students for top-level positions in the business industry, where they should expect disruption, but can fundamentally prepare for it through critical observation and thinking.

Previous classes of the Leadership Development Honors Program have worked in the Program’s Code of Conduct, helped out with a funding initiative to improve the Center’s ability to support student and Program development, and helped develop and implement the program’s Study Abroad Program.

In addition to the opportunities mentioned above, student leaders are expected to complete 80 hours of community service, since good leaders lead, and great leaders serve.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES ABOUND

Students at Stillman School have plenty of opportunities at experiential learning even if they are not part of the Leadership Program. Finance students who have their eyes set on Wall Street will get practice with stock evaluations, take classes in the school’s Center for Securities Trading and Analysis, and even attend the annual Capital Markets Colloquium.

Students at Stillman can choose from 16 business-specific student organizations and 5 study abroad opportunities to broaden their business education.

From the Accounting Cub, Supply Chain Club, and Entrepreneurship Club, to the Marketing Club, Sport Management Student Association, and Stillman Exchange, there’s no way a business student at Seton Hall can say they are having a hard time meeting like-minded people.

The Stillman Exchange is Seton Hall University’s Business Publication. Articles on the site cover everything from tech and innovation, money and investing, and spots, to international news, and international business.

What was particularly outstanding was that many alumni who responded to the survey said that they had gone on multiple trips. One even shared that he had gone on four study-abroad trips to Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Ireland, all while working on his degree in Finance, Marketing, and IT, with a Minor in Legal Studies.

“I traveled to Athens, Greece and attended workshops at various businesses to understand how they started, what’s the cash generator and what challenges they were facing as the recession came on: Ahmed, who now works as a Financial Analyst with The Boston Consulting Group, said. “It was an amazing experience and I learned so much about so many different industries.”

Alumni say:

“The Capstone projects and project simulations were extremely realistic and exceptional tools in enhancing my skills. These experiences immediately prepared me for my internship opportunities as an undergraduate and professional opportunities post graduation.”

“I will touch on the two most impactful experiences. The first was the student-managed investment fund. This gave me tangible, real-world experience that I could bring to my internship and then full-time interviews. The second experience was being a research assistant to Dr. Orenstein. Through this research I was able to use my coding skills and complete research at the intersection of my two majors (finance and IT). Stillman is incredibly supportive of their students and they provide so many opportunities for students to put the knowledge learned in the classroom to work in real-world experiences.”

“In my junior year as a market research student, we worked on real world issues to help them with their market research studies. One team had a renowned pharmaceutical company that many of us have heard of as a client, my team had a well-known k-8 school that was trying to implement a new program. We conducted research and held focus groups and presented our findings to our clients.”

“Lead a team of students in assisting an alumni’s startup providing services tied to market sizing, market research, digital advertising, as well as general business and growth strategy. This experience has helped on numerous projects while at Deloitte.”

“My senior year, I was given the opportunity to engage in a guided study course on a one-on-one basis with one of the senior accounting professors centered around the impact of climate change on financial reporting. This course helped me to meet the requirements I needed to sit for my CPA exam, and also exposed me to an exciting new area within my field.”
