Esade’s New Bachelor Degree Focuses on People and the Planet

Barcelona-based Esade welcomed its inaugural class of its new bachelor in Transformational Business and Social Impact (BITBASI) program last week.

BITBASI, a three-year blended bachelor, combines the study of courses in technology, humanities, and business. It is the business school’s answer to students’ demands for a new business world with a focus on people and the planet.

“We are very proud of the 2021 class; a group of young leaders with an incredible, positive ambition to challenge the status quo and change the world. We are looking forward to helping them channel their passion towards transforming existing businesses, creating new ventures, and most importantly, making a positive contribution to the planet and society,” Mònica Casabayó, BITBASI’s Academic Director, says in a press release.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

During the first days of the program, the students will receive an introduction to BITBASI and Esade’s services. Students will then kickstart their first project-based course: Designing Your Web Portfolio.

Graduates of the program are expected to join businesses, non-profit organizations or economic development institutions in roles ranging from Chief Innovation Officer to managers in sustainability or ethics.

PEOPLE, PLANET, PROFITS

The program is designed to emphasize a triple bottom line of people, planet, and profits. In particular, it will focus on fostering the development of multidisciplinary skills, such as analytical thinking, business management, data analysis, creativity, technology design, and entrepreneurship. The program’s final degree project asks students to create a start-up with social impact.

Another key component of the BITBASI is its humanities-based learning with practices such as Socratic discussions and focus on liberal arts education, history, philosophy, and literature. Students in the program will take part in study tours, where they are exposed to international innovation and companies with social impact.
