Where Are The Conservative College Students?

Campus conservatives: They exist. You just need to know where to look

UC-Berkeley has long been known as a hotbed of liberal politics and more recently the epicenter of the Free Speech Movement has become a theater of protest violence in the Trump era. But these days, it’s not just Berkeley anymore. Colleges everywhere are making headlines for hyper-liberal student protests.

Some might say the phenomena began with UC Berkeley in February 2017, when right-wing writer Milo Yiannopoulos was scheduled to speak on campus. A peaceful student protest erupted, ultimately inflicting $100,000 in damage to the campus.

And then at Middlebury College in March 2017, student protesters shut down a talk by Charles Murray, author of The Bell Curve, preventing him from speaking, and injuring the Middlebury professor who was with him.

WHERE ARE THE COLLEGE-AGED CONSERVATIVES?

Over and over again, this pattern has repeated itself. In April, demonstrators at Claremont McKenna College disrupted a speech by pro-police author Heather MacDonald. More recently, Bethune-Cookman University students booed, and walked out during Betsy DeVos’ commencement speech.

So where – in a sea of liberal-learning universities – are the college-aged conservatives? There probably aren’t too many at the schools mentioned above. But every year The Princeton Review compiles a list of the universities with the most conservative students, based on student surveys. Poets&Quants has compiled the most recent Princeton Review lists below.
