Where will you be working after graduation? I currently haven’t accepted a full-time offer after graduation, but I am hoping to work within a Marketing and Advertising Agency.

What company do you admire the most? Currently, The World Surf League manages and operates the world tour of professional surfing. However, I admire them for more than just feeding my passion for surfing. They have created entertaining and progressive new media platforms with live streaming events, podcasts, video series, and more that have created a hub for surfing content. In addition, they created WSL Pure in order to manage sustainable and environmental initiatives around the world.

Who is your favorite professor? One of my favorite professors was Cindi Gilliand. She was a professor in the Management and Organizations department. She taught multiple classes in the Eller College of Management (Eller), but I was lucky enough to have her for Management of Groups and Teams and it has still been one of my favorite courses. She shows and inspires her students on how to be true leaders and make a difference in the world around them.

What did you enjoy most about your business school? My favorite part of Eller was the amount of collaboration that my classes and clubs required. The use of team projects and case competitions allowed me to meet and learn from a diverse group of students who also wanted to succeed and push each other. This also fostered a collaborative environment rather than feeling like I had to compete amongst my peers.

What is the biggest lesson you gained from studying business? Success is more achievable when I am better able to time manage. Time management is key to being able to optimize tasks and make challenges easier. Whether this is applied in business or in my life, successful time management will allow me to reach my goals and outcomes more efficiently.

What advice would you give to a student looking to major in a business-related field? Go for it! Studying business has been such an interesting and diverse experience. People study business for all sorts of different reasons and that gives you a diverse group of peers and classmates who are so easy to get along with. You also get to learn so many different studies and majors when you study business. Not only does business continue to challenge students, but it also allows them to have a wider range of opportunities post-college.

What has surprised you most about majoring in business? What surprises me the most about studying business on how it is relatively vital to create a vast variety of skills. Even though I am a marketing major, I still feel like I need to know basic accounting and finance principles because everything isn’t always a clean cut in business. It’s exciting because it keeps me on my toes and challenges me to work harder for my education.

Which academic, extracurricular or personal achievement are you most proud of? Becoming president of the Eller Leadership Board. I have been on the board since my sophomore year and it’s a program that I have been so proud to be a part of. The program that the board runs has really changed and helped students throughout their freshman year and I couldn’t think of a better organization to be a part. To be the leader of this program/family and invest my time into something that I can leave a legacy behind in has been an amazing experience.

Which classmate do you most admire? I really admire Kathryn (Kat) Luher. Kat and I have had almost every class together. For some of those, she was the driving force behind my success and sanity. What inspires me the most about Kat is her ability to be successful and get great grades while always having fun and making sure she gets to do what she wants. Whether it is hitting the library or going rock climbing, she is having fun while being the best in the class, and that’s what it is all about.

Who would you most want to thank for your success? I’d like to say thank you to Cassandra Bade. She is someone who has been there for me for the last three years and really found ways to make me a better student, person, and leader. She is such an amazing person that always finds a way to foster growth within not only herself but those around her. She is able to turn any setback or obstacle into a challenge and inspire both me and others to do the same. I wouldn’t be as driven and successful as I have been today without her as one of my role models and girlfriend.

What are the top two items on your professional bucket list?

I would love to eventually sit on a Board of Directors for a university or my alma mater in order to continue to impact and help the lives of students pursuing higher education.

I would also like to one day own or be an investor in a restaurant, bar, or brewery in my local area, wherever that might be. I think this would be rewarding as I could invest in something that could bring together my local community.

What are your hobbies? My favorite hobby is surfing, but I also love to get outdoors in other ways by hiking and going on camping trips. In addition, at the University of Arizona, I enjoy giving campus tours and making rounds at bags with my friends.

What made Hunter such an invaluable addition to the Class of 2020?

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Hunter in a number of different ways during his time at the University of Arizona. Hunter has worked with our Faculty Technology and Innovation team and his input helped to form the college’s strategy to incorporate more technology into both the curriculum and development of technology workshops. Additionally, Hunter is 1 of only 2 marketing majors chosen to participate in a student team that will be representing the university in the Econ Games, a national Economics/Data Analytics competition. He was selected because of his outstanding performance in the classroom, unique skillset, and service to the college. Hunter is one of the most impressive students I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I consider myself lucky to have been able to work with him in such various ways and I wish there were more students like him.”
