How Students Are Weighing Politics In Their College Choices

ACBSP Welcomes Their New President & CEO

Business education is in the middle of a transformation. More often, schools are seeing AI‑powered classrooms, and employers asking for skills that didn’t exist five years ago.

What this means is that those steering the direction of higher ed through accreditation have a huge influence on what tomorrow’s business programs actually teach. That’s why the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP)’s announcement seen on PR Newswire this month is incredibly important.

The organization has just named Michael Wiemer as its next President and CEO.

STEERING THE FUTURE OF BUSINESS EDUCATION

This year alone, AACSB rolled out a new AI‑integration framework and formalized global standards that push schools to rethink technology, ethics, and impact. So ACBSP’s announcement lands at a pretty pivotal moment. Since 1988, ACBSP has been a major force in accreditation.

As one chapter is closing another is unfolding. Wiemer succeeds Jeffrey Alderman, who guided ACBSP for over a decade before retiring last year.

With more than 25 years in accreditation, global strategy, and association management, Wiemer is bringing years of knowledge and experience with him. His years at AACSB International have put him at the center of global growth initiatives and professional development efforts. He has been in a front‑row position to understand how business schools must adapt to remain relevant.

Those around him are confident he will make a great leader. “Michael’s extensive experience in accreditation and higher education positions ACBSP for continued growth and global impact,” says ACBSP Board Chair Dennis Brode.

Previously, Weimer served as the inaugural director of the Fintech Center at the University of South Florida’s Muma College of Business. He was part of building programs at the intersection of finance, technology, and artificial intelligence. He forged industry partnerships, supported startup accelerator initiatives, and championed interdisciplinary learning — all areas that mirror where business education is heading.

Wiemer himself frames the moment with optimism. “I am deeply honored to join ACBSP… and to serve this vibrant global community of business schools and programs,” he says.
