Bob Dittmar Named Associate Dean At Rice’s Virani Undergraduate Business School

The last year has brought exciting momentum to Rice University. Back in May of 2024, the university unveiled their Virani Undergraduate Business School, bringing in a new era of business education. Now, this year, the school has just announced a new Assistant Dean – Bob Dittmar, their Houston Endowment Professor of Finance.

“We’re thrilled to have Bob step into this important leadership role,” shared Dean Peter Rodriguez. “He brings not only deep academic insight but also a clear commitment to student learning and development. As we continue building the Virani Undergraduate School of Business into one of the premier business programs in the country, Bob’s vision and collaborative style will be a tremendous asset.”

DITTMAR’S VISION FOR VIRANI

Before landing at Rice in 2023, Dittmar spent years teaching at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and publishing top-tier research on everything from asset pricing to the way markets misbehave under pressure. Now he’s stepping into a role to help shape the undergrad business experience.

Dittmar brings both intellectual depth and a real passion for student growth. He’s also a favorite in the classroom, known for teaching complex finance theories in both a relevant and engaging way. It’s said that he’s got a gift for turning buzzwords into lightbulb moments, whether he’s modeling investments or unpacking the forces that move global markets.

As Associate Dean, Dittmar says he will lead strategy, curriculum, and the day-to-day rhythm of the Virani undergraduate program. He intends to integrate new courses and fresh ideas.

“Rice students are smart, curious, and ready to lead,” Dittmar said. “I’m excited to help shape a program that challenges them, supports them, and ultimately equips them to make their mark –in business and beyond.”
