Henrik Cronqvist Steps Away from His Role as Chapman’s Dean
Dean Henrik Cronqvist has never been one to maintain the status quo. Since stepping in as Dean of Chapman University’s Argyros College of Business & Economics in July 2022, he has led with bold, student-centered innovation.
Now, nearly three years later, Cronqvist announced he is stepping away in his latest LinkedIn post – not from Chapman, but from his role as Dean.
A behavioral finance scholar trained under Nobel Laureate Richard H. Thaler at the University of Chicago’s Booth School, Cronqvist’s research which is published in several top-tier journals, has earned nearly 7,000 citations and more than 10 Best Paper Awards. His leadership at Chapman has elevated rankings, expanded corporate partnerships, and redefined career success for students.
Before Chapman, he held leadership roles at the University of Miami Herbert Business School, spearheading online program expansion and executive education platforms. His career also took him to China Europe International Business School, Claremont McKenna College, and The Ohio State University.
When Cronqvist first took on the dean role at Argyros, he shared that his mission is all about transformation. “In academia, as in life, we must be open to pushing boundaries,” he stated.
LEADING CHANGE, LEAVING A LEGACY
Under his leadership, the Argyros College saw a surge in rankings, enrollment, and interdisciplinary offerings. His initiatives weren’t just about prestige, but also about preparing students for an evolving global economy. “Understanding different cultures’ communication styles, attitudes toward hierarchy, time, and risk can build trust, collaboration, and drive innovation,” he said.
His next focus? Advancing behavioral finance research and advising ventures at the intersection of education and innovation. “The future of education is being rewritten in real time,” he wrote in his post. “Let’s keep building it together.”
As for who will step into his shoes? Chapman has yet to announce his successor. “To the students and alumni—thank you for inspiring innovative ideas, challenging assumptions, and reminding us all why our work matters,” Cronqvist wrote.
And while he may be leaving the Dean’s office, his impact on the future of finance and education is far from over.
