2016 Rankings Report Card: How Alums Grade Their Schools

advising

How would you appraise the effectiveness of the business program’s academic advising effort?

520241473Having someone at a business school be shoulder-to-shoulder with the students, advising them on their academic options, is a part of the undergraduate experience that is easily overlooked. High school guidance counselors, after all, are notoriously absent from playing as big a role as expected in the journey to college. So expectations for having a counselor in college are low. But schools that meaningfully invest in this area provide their students with an important service. They help to insure that students don’t get lost in the shuffle.

Which schools score the highest marks from their alumni for having truly effective academic advising? University of Notre Dame Mendoza School of Business and Washington University’s Olin School of Business are neck-and-neck in this department, right at the top. Then, there is Texas Christian University’s Neeley School of Business, Emory University’s Goizueta School of Business and Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. On our ten-point scale, with ten reflecting the highest possible score, 9.09 topped the list while a score of 7.63 was at the bottom, with an average of 8.43.
