PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CURRICULUM
A distinguishing feature of the McCoy College program is its structured professional development curriculum, which integrates career readiness training at multiple stages of the student journey. In Fall 2024, the college introduced a three-course professional development sequence designed in response to employer feedback.
The sequence begins with BA 1310: Introduction to Business, which integrates self-assessments, career pathway discussions, business fundamentals, and professional development training. The course also includes a leadership training certificate program and requires participation in career fairs, student organization meetings, and employer engagement events.
Sophomore and junior students continue their professional development through two additional one-credit courses focused on resume building, interview preparation, and networking. Like the freshman-level course, these classes require students to participate in co-curricular professional development activities.
To further enhance career readiness, employer engagement, and student support, McCoy College has developed several new initiatives. The McCoy College Student Success Center was established as a physical space staffed by three full-time professionals dedicated to coordinating employer engagement activities, resume reviews, mock interviews, and employer-sponsored events.
First-generation college students receive tailored resources to help them navigate unique challenges, reinforcing the college’s commitment to an inclusive and supportive learning environment. The McCoy College Welcome Celebration is another initiative aimed at fostering a strong sense of community among first-year students by connecting them with student organizations, faculty, and career development resources.
McCoy also launched Career Pathway Programs designed in collaboration with corporate partners and alumni to provide students with a deeper understanding of industry-specific career paths. These programs include job shadowing, mentorship opportunities, company site visits, and co-curricular learning experiences that align with current job market demands.
