2025 Best & Brightest Business Major: Audrey Meyering, University of Denver (Daniels)

Audrey Meyering

University of Denver, Daniels College of Business

“If I was a bird, I’d be a crow: intelligent, inquisitive, and a little mischievous!”

Fun fact about yourself: I actually have a crow tattoo on the left side of my ribcage. His name is Edgar!

Pronouns: She/ They

Hometown: Denver, CO

Major: Business Analytics and Information Systems

Minor: Business Ethics and Legal Studies

Favorite Business Course: Professor Klaw’s class on White Collar Crime! White Collar Crime is terrible, but his class was fantastic. It was so interesting to not only learn about white collar crime, but also why it is so prevalent and how we prevent it in the future.

Extracurricular Activities, Community Work and Leadership Roles During College: I’m passionate about learning and eventually want to become a Marketing Analytics professor after gaining some real-world experience. Because of this, I’ve worked as both an athletics tutor and a peer advisor with Daniels Career Services. I love feeling like I’m making a positive difference in the lives of other Daniels students!

  • Hornbeck Scholar
  • Dean’s List
  • Writing Excellence Award

Where have you interned during your college career?

First Bank, Retail Banking Intern

First Bank, Retail Banking and Compliance Intern

Where will you be working after graduation? Post-graduation, I will be pursuing my Master of Science in Marketing. Post graduate school? I’m free as a bird! But wherever my wings take me, I’ll make sure it’s somewhere good.

Who is your favorite business professor? My favorite professor at the University of Denver is Professor Bruce Klaw! Professor Klaw is as passionate about his work as he is his students. His classes are centered around discussion-based learning, helping us not only understand the legal environment of business, but how to be ethical patrons of the community. I’ve had the privilege of taking several of his courses, and they are easily some of the most informative classes I’ve taken at Daniels. He always has time to answer questions, offer advice, and provide helpful insights to help students along our academic and professional journeys.

What is the biggest lesson you gained from studying business? Be brave and don’t let fear hold you back. Chances are, everyone else is just as scared as you are. Even if you put yourself out there and things don’t pan out, you should always be proud of yourself for trying.

What advice would you give to a student looking to major in a business-related field? Business is a wide field with an array of opportunities. Don’t be afraid to try new things or take challenging courses. Studying business has helped me discover new passions, and I believe it can help you do the same! It’s a major that you can tweak and customize to help you find your dream role.

What is one way that your business school has integrated AI into your programming? What is one insight you gained from using AI? AI is such a complex but useful tool. I’ve integrated it into several academic courses including (but not limited to) AI Ethics and Governance, Automating Business Processes, and Complex Data Analytics. Through these courses, I not only learned how to responsibly use AI, but how to enhance my work with it, even earning an AI certification along the way.

At the end of the day, my biggest takeaway from AI is that it’s a powerful tool. I love using it to explain complex code to me, so I can better understand and enhance my programming skills in the future. Overreliance on AI can hinder your academic growth, but using it to better understand complex programs, brainstorm new ideas, and proofread your work can enhance your academic performance. I think it is the combination of human ideas and AI knowledge that makes it such a useful asset in and outside of academics.

Which academic, extracurricular or personal achievement are you most proud of? I am most proud of developing Allen, my personal AI assistant. Allen is a little unconventional, with a sassy personality and penitent for birds that rivals my own, but underneath all of that, he’s a helpful fellow who’s happy to help however he can. (With a generous sprinkle of bird-related anecdotes of course!) I first coded Allen as a bird and board game savant, that I presented to my peers as a midterm project. I later used him to create images for a custom RPG I coded, then turned him into a business assistant who helped with the development of my fictional enterprise Brian’s Boardgames – a simple boardgame company that has helped me better understand the analytical framework that holds business together.

It was one of the most challenging but rewarding things I’ve done in my academic career. I’m so thankful to my classmates who helped me, and Professor Leo Dixon, who collaborated with me on the project and encouraged me along the way. Thank you for loving Allen as much as I do.

Which classmate do you most admire? I have many talented peers whom I look up to, but the one I look up to the most is Jared Briggs. Jared is an ambitious, hardworking, and passionate analytics student, engaged with both his courses and several clubs on campus! He’s the definition of a go-getter, coding an AI to help our marketing and communications department, working as a consultant for several companies, and competing in regular sales club tournaments. I look forward to seeing his future successes; I can only imagine where he will end up!

Who would you most want to thank for your success? There are so many people I wish to thank, but I would especially like to thank my close friends and fellow analytics majors, Vanessa Sarabio-Torres and Finn Soderstrom. Vanessa has been with me since Day 1 at DU and has been by my side through it all. She is passionate, curious, and inspires me to be my authentic self. Finn is one of my closest friends and was a crucial member of my development of Allen. His compassion and drive have kept me going, even when I feel I can’t. Thank you both for all the late nights in the library, the time spent together in the classroom, and the laughter shared outside of them. Your encouragement and support mean more than I can ever express. I could not have done any of this without you.

What are the top two items on your professional bucket list?

  • Write and publish an academic article for peer review
  • Become a (slightly eccentric) college professor

What made Audrey such an invaluable addition to the Class of 2025?

“Audrey Meyering exemplifies the kind of student we aspire to cultivate at the Daniels College of Business. A true polymath, she is engaged, inquisitive, analytical, and unafraid—always eager to learn and apply her knowledge in meaningful ways. As a business analytics major with a minor in business ethics & legal studies who is currently pursuing a master’s degree in marketing, Audrey has embraced the 21st century challenge of integrating data-driven insights with sound human judgment. This unique combination underscores her commitment to ensuring that business serves all stakeholders ethically and effectively.

Having worked with Audrey in multiple courses, I’ve been consistently impressed by her intellectual rigor, thoughtful engagement, and fearless approach to challenging and applying ideas. In my White Collar & Corporate Crime seminar, she didn’t just analyze what went wrong at Enron—she critically examined how corporate compliance programs could be improved and then pursued an internship in the compliance department of a bank to contribute firsthand. In AI Ethics & Governance, she didn’t stop at just discussing how AI may be better aligned with the necessary respect for fairness, autonomy, and transparency—she took it a step further by using Python to design her own generative AI assistant imbued with these qualities.

Audrey is not just a standout student in business and analytics; she is a thinker, an innovator, an artist, and a trusted advisor to her peers. With her diverse talents and relentless drive, I have no doubt she will make a profound positive impact in both business and society.”
