Describe your dream job: My dream job has two key traits: It involves constant learning and the ability to create positive change. Being a curious person, I can’t imagine enjoying a career where I’m not challenged every day. I want to drive value while constantly broadening my perspective.

What did you enjoy most about majoring in a business-related field? Majoring in a business-related field has allowed me to tackle a variety of courses with a great balance of qualitative and quantitative material. It has helped me to develop as a well-rounded professional, ready to address all types of challenges.

Where would you like to work after graduation? After graduation I am excited to join Deloitte Consulting as an Analyst in their Strategy & Operations group.

What are your long-term professional goals? At this point I’m not set on what I want to be when I grow up. I’m incredibly excited to begin a career in consulting and explore a variety of industries and the unique challenges they face before pursuing an MBA.

“I knew I wanted to major in business when…I knew I wanted to major in business when I became involved with the amazing students in Future Business Leaders of America – Phi Beta Lambda during my high school career and saw the problems I could solve with a background in business.”

“If I didn’t major in business, I would be…attempting to learn photography and traveling the world on a nonexistent budget.”

What was the happiest moment of your life? The happiest moment in my life occurred in Edinburgh, Scotland while standing on Arthur’s Seat, reflecting how much my world had changed since growing up on a dairy farm in rural Wisconsin. I had just spent a semester studying in London and then three weeks traveling Europe with classmates. Having never been overseas, ending my experience with a week of traveling alone, I knew I would have the confidence to take on any challenge that came my way.

Which academic or personal achievement are you most proud of? The impact I’ve had on the Wisconsin Consulting Club is the personal achievement I’m most proud of. Arriving on campus freshman year, I discovered a small, relatively new organization of undergraduate students interested in consulting. After attending a company presentation, I joined the group and took on the role of corporate development. Seeing little interest in students and the few firms that recruited on campus that year, I connected with consulting firms of all types and between my sophomore and junior years was able to schedule over 65 firm contact points, from office visits to on-campus case workshops, and tripled our active membership to over 75 members. As president this year, I am beyond excited to see our club place a majority of our graduating seniors in top consulting roles and am thrilled to work with a talented team of friends that will continue this success.

What animal would you choose to represent your professional brand? A dire wolf. While a fictional beast introduced in A Game of Thrones, I appreciate how much respect a dire wolf earns for its loyalty and strength while it’s still up for debate what its true purpose is.

Who would you most want to thank for your success? I wouldn’t be the person I am today without my family and friends from my hometown. They showed me how to build lasting relationships, to truly be present in social settings, and how to balance life on a variety of fronts, from academics to varsity athletics.

Fun fact about yourself: I have a core group of friends that I’ve known since middle school that I still get together with to build personal computers and play video games throughout the night.

What made Drew such an invaluable addition to the Class of 2016?

“The desire to continuously learn, improve, and give back has influenced all of the contributions Drew Marx has made to the Wisconsin BBA Program and the Class of 2016. Drew is someone who sees a challenge or a problem and is willing to tackle it head on with determination, hard work, and commitment.

As president of the Wisconsin Consulting Club, Drew saw opportunities to connect students, employers, and alumni. His initiative, professionalism, and follow-through meant the club was able to secure new partnerships to benefit both student and firms. In addition, as a facilitator for one of our courses, Drew was passionate about helping new business students succeed, providing tips and advice that would allow them to maximize their time in the Wisconsin BBA Program and positively represent the school in all their endeavors. His multiple internships in a variety of industries and his time abroad illustrate his commitment to continual learning and his perpetual curiosity. But instead of learning just for the sake of learning, Drew looks to have an impact on his community and the world by gaining, examining, and applying this new knowledge. His work with March of Dimes Foundation exemplifies his commitment to giving back.”
