My name is Justine Murray and I am a senior at the University of Pennsylvania studying at the Wharton School. My concentrations are Marketing and Social Impact and Responsibility.
Doing business at the undergraduate level was a goal I began to work towards when I entered the tenth grade. That was when I first took and fell in love with economics. It was the following year that I began to study its application to the world of business and decided that that was something I wanted to study long term. When looking to apply to colleges therefore, an undergraduate business school seemed to fit perfectly with my aspirations and at the top of the list for me was Wharton. Now that I am here as a student and have had the opportunity to experience its nature as an institution for over several years, I can say that there are three things that I like most about Wharton:
First, as a business school, Wharton did not just reinforce my love for business, but also provided me the resources needed to figure out what, within the business world, was best suited for me. The core classes that all students are required to take expose them to a wide range of business areas and then gives them the freedom to major in the area that they deem most interesting.
Secondly, the collaborative nature of most of its classes has taught me the value of teamwork and coordination. By filling its halls with students whose aspirations are similar, Wharton empowers its students to form ties that have the potential to drive results that exceed individual ambitions.
Finally, being a part of this environment has helped me to not only determine but secure professional opportunities with the institutions that I desire to work with after I graduate. Many would say that, in addition to earning a degree, being able to secure a job upon graduation is another goal they have when entering college. I love the fact that, within a few specific fields, Wharton ensures that we have exposure to such job opportunities.
