10 Most-Searched Majors Online

As higher education continues to evolve, understanding which majors students are favoring and genuinely curious about might mean looking beyond enrollment stats.

A new study from the online learning platform Studocu just revealed which college majors are capturing the attention of future college students the most across the country.

“Students often explore majors that provide clear academic structures and broad opportunities,” said a spokesperson from Studocu. “These results reflect general interest in foundational fields across the country.”

Researchers at Studocu used Google Keyword Planner to analyze over 1,100 major‑related keyword searches, averaging monthly search volumes across all 50 states from November 2024 to October 2025. These were the majors with the most search interest.

THE TOP FIVE MAJORS SEARCHED

Rank Major Average monthly volume
1 Psychology 35,869
2 Computer science 34,440
3 Music 29,185
4 Criminal justice 28,431
5 Business Administration 25,633

At the very top of the list, Psychology takes the number‑one spot with 35,869 average monthly searches. Students today seem to be drawn to understanding human behavior, mental processes, and the science behind why people act the way they do.

“Psychology is a wildly popular major for students who want to help others and understand themselves and the world,” says writer Evan Castillo from Best Colleges.

Taking home second place was Computer Science, with 34,440 searches. This major was an expected frontrunner with the nonstop demand for tech skills in today’s digital economy.

In third was a rather surprising major: Music. Creativity still has a strong pull, even in a job‑market‑focused world. According to the team at the online learning platform Coursera, visual and performing arts, including music, remain among the most popular fields of study.

Rounding out the top five were Criminal Justice in fourth with 28,431 searches, and then Business Administration in fifth place with 25,633.

Criminal justice attracts students interested in law enforcement and legal systems, while Business Administration remains popular for its flexibility and wide career options in areas like management, marketing, and finance. The National Center for Education Statistics says that year-after-year, business continues to be one of the most popular majors globally.
