How would you appraise the business program’s efforts to bring you into contact with practicing professionals, including your school’s alumni network, in the business community?
Akin to the previous question about extra-curricular opportunities, one of the great less-than expected benefits of earning a degree from a top business school is the opportunity to make early connections with the movers and shakers of the business world. Schools can easily draw from their own alumni networks, but the best can attract global and national business leaders to lecture in classrooms. According to this year’s alumni survey, Philadelphia schools seem to hold an edge in this category. While not finishing on top, Wharton and Villanova’s School of Business ranked third and fourth with 9.4 and 9.35. They were followed by another Pennsylvania school, Penn State’s Smeal school, which finished fifth and earned an average of 9.34.
On top yet again, however, was Virginia’s McIntire School, earning a 9.46. Not far off was Minnesota’s Carlson School, based in Minneapolis, which earned a 9.45.
