Grossman School Of Business Launches New Co-Op Program With $15 Million Gift

If you are looking for a business school with experiential learning through co-op opportunities, you may want to add UVM to your list.

The Grossman School of Business at the University of Vermont just received a $15 million contribution from the Grossman Family Foundation to launch their new co-op program, which will officially kick off in Fall of 2025.

What’s a co-op? It’s similar to an internship – but internships are typically shorter, lasting 10-12 weeks whereas co-ops can last several months or a year. In terms of compensation, co-ops are often paid, whereas internships can vary – paid or unpaid, depending on the employer.

The foundation has been donating to the school for several years. The Grossmans have long been supporting the school and contributed a large $20 million to the business school back in 2015, hence the honorary name, which was the largest gift in UVM’s history at that time. From within the family, alumni Steven Grossman has long been tied to the school having graduated from the UVM School of Business in 1961.

Their new co-op program will be centered around experiential learning opportunities focused on highly enrich a business school experience. These experiences will be available to those with concentration in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, and Business Analytics.

“Our best students frequently request high-impact, real-world educational experiences, while employers have told us repeatedly, they prefer hosting students during the fall and spring semesters, when there are more meaningful work and learning opportunities,” said Grossman School Dean Sanjay Sharma.

To ensure this all runs smoothly in the launch, Grossman is taking on a director and several staff members who are dedicated specifically to the Co-op.

Sarma anticipates this co-op opportunity will put the school on the radar of more applicants, for both those inside and outside of the Northeast region.

Alum Steve Grossman believes the co-op to be a valuable asset in helping the business school students succeed in their careers post-grad. “The business community will provide our students with meaningful experience, and sponsors will be the beneficiaries of valuable input from the immensely capable and creative undergraduates who study at UVM.”
