The Favorite Professors Of Business Majors

Wake Forest’s Cynthia Tessien

My favorite professor is Cynthia Tessien from my Managerial Accounting. She has managed to make a lasting impact in my personal growth by always keeping me concentrated on being humble, achieving an impact in the community, and maintaining different perspectives in the different clubs and organizations I belong to. Through conversations, she has not only made a lasting influence on my personal skills and achievements, but also serves as a role model for business school students outside the classroom. Her accomplishments and leadership have demonstrated to business school students that we can have both, a meaningful career and a lasting impact on others, even while you have many other responsibilities to attend to.” – Jorge Fournier, Wake Forest University

“My favorite professor would have to be my Managerial Accounting and Control professor, Brian Lendecky. He made accounting energetic and fun to learn. He also challenged the class to not only know the material, but to form professional opinions based on our own experiences. I really loved how he valued our experiences as students and found ways to use them as teaching materials.” – Rakiya Cunningham, University of Texas (McCombs)

“Professor Tom King because he can turn complex topics into memorable and simple concepts. Professor King is always encouraging of everything that I do, even when I doubt myself.” – Zoe Yang, Case Western Reserve University (Weatherhead)

Dr. Paul Friga – in part because I learned and developed the most in his class, which pushes you to your limits in team-based case projects, but more so after getting to work with him for two semesters after that and seeing how much he has done to build up the consulting program at UNC Kenan-Flagler. He cares about each student who goes through the curriculum and does whatever he can to help them prepare for and land their dream job.” – Chris Johnson, University of North Carolina (Kenan-Flagler)

“My favorite professor so far has been Professor Michele Goins. Her classes were relevant, incredibly engaging, and extremely enlightening. I have never had to work more to prepare for our lectures and class discussions, but all the effort paid off in spades. She treated us like business professionals, not college undergraduates, and thus I truly felt transformed and capable after taking two of her management courses. While I am sad to no longer be her student, I am grateful for her continued mentorship that transcends the classroom as I navigate new waters and enter the professional realm.” – Katherine Uhl, Santa Clara University

USC Marshall’s Noam Wasserman

That is an incredibly difficult question to answer especially because I have had some incredible professors during my time at USC. Although I am still taking his class, Professor Noam Wasserman has been one of the most entertaining and energetic professors I’ve had at Marshall. He frames things in a very thought-provoking yet intuitive and understandable way, and the actual structure of the class is very well-designed. As someone who may want to start his own company one day, Professor Wasserman and his class have been extremely informative and inspiring for me. Furthermore, Professor Wasserman frequently brings in the founders that we are studying or shows us videos of what happened after the cases we studied, which allow for a contemporary look into what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur.” – Yash Gupta, USC (Marshall)

“I had the pleasure of being enrolled in two of Dr. Ken Baker’s classes (Survey of Economics and The Firm in a Global Context). His combination of outside material and real world examples provided a unique view of our world through an economic lens. This allowed engaged students to jump to their own conclusions about what may or may not be good policy for specific challenges facing our modern, globalized society.” – Phillip K. Newsom, University of Tennessee (Haslam)

“My favorite professor was Jim McCann. He was one of my first finance professors, and presented even the most basic concepts in an engaging and exciting style that helped me realize finance was for me. He’s incredibly dedicated to his students, constantly answering questions from students via email and helping to connect younger students with older mentors. He demonstrated to me (and countless other students) an understanding of what it would take to reach my goals and helped me build a plan to get there.” – Joe Gorman, Fordham University (Gabelli)

Allison Burdette: Professor Burdette challenges us to think beyond the academic application of our coursework, focusing instead on the principles and significance behind each lesson. We’re pushed to derive meaning from each class that connects to situations encountered in our personal and professional lives. This, coupled with her honest, direct feedback and clear enthusiasm for the material, is why Professor Burdette’s Business Law is one of the most valuable classes I’ve taken at Goizueta.” – Georgia Kossoff, Emory University (Goizueta)

“This is tough because I’ve had so many professors at Notre Dame who genuinely care about their students, treating them as less of a name on the roster and more of an equal. I’d say few embody this more than Marketing Professor John Weber. With almost 50 years of experience here, he has always gone above and beyond to not only be a champion for his students and exhaust all resources to guide them through the job search process, but to also create life-long friendships with each one. His passion for marketing and people is contagious.” – Katie Eilert, University of Notre Dame (Mendoza)

Villanova University’s Benjamin Scheick,

“Dr. Benjamin Scheick is one of the most passionate professors I’ve ever had. His classes are challenging but engaging, and have equipped me with skills applicable in the real world. More importantly, he truly cares about his students and is a valuable resource for anything from a homework question to career advice.” – Susana Lacouture, Villanova University

“My favorite professor at BYU Marriott is Troy Nielson. I’ve taken three classes from him while in the HRM program and I’ve gotten to know him well. What makes Troy really unique is his genuine interest in students. He takes time to commit each student’s name by memory. He also brings in his family on the first day of class, where we can ask any member a question. In essence, he shows that he is human and that he cares about his family and cares about us as students. Even his teaching style demonstrates sincerity with regard to our professional development and future careers.” – Braeden Santiago, Brigham Young University (Marriott)

“One of my favorite professors at TCU is Dr. Brad Harris. I had the opportunity to take his Leadership Challenge class as part of the BNSF Neeley Leadership Program during my junior year and loved it. He created a class where the topics and materials challenged students to think differently in order to teach us to adapt in an ever-changing environment. All the while, his curious sense of humor created a challenging but fun class.” – Jose Barron, Texas Christian University (Neeley)

During my senior year of high school, I came to visit TCNJ to sit in on a class in the School of Business. Afterwards, my mom and I ran into Dr. Karen Becker in the hallway and she started telling us about different opportunities within the business school and about a freshman seminar course she was teaching in the fall. That was the day I realized TCNJ was where I wanted to spend the next four years. Since that day, Dr. Becker has become not only my academic advisor, but also my closest mentor. I am continually amazed at her passion, enthusiasm, and intelligence. There has never before been a professor so confident in my capabilities, and so invested in my success but also my well-being. She pushes me to make the most of every opportunity, and it is through Dr. Becker that I have had so many opportunities to do research and work with other faculty in the School of Business. The hours spent just chatting in her office are something I’ll miss the most about my time at TCNJ.” – Kaelyn DiGiamarino, College of New Jersey
