CU Boulder’s Record-Breaking 35 Startups This Year

The University of Colorado Boulder is proud to say they have smashed records this year by launching 35 startups. Before this record, their number to beat was 20 startups in 2021.

A RECORD 35 STARTUPS

While top schools like Stanford (38 startups in 2022) and MIT (32 startups in 2020) have impressive stats, CU Boulder’s ability to turn research into thriving businesses stands out particularly because they’re outside of top VC hubs like Silicon Valley and Boston.

Their 35 startups ventured into diverse industries. Take Mana Battery, which is pioneering safer, sustainable sodium-based batteries. Another is Flari Tech – revolutionizing healthcare with breath-analysis tech for disease detection. There is also Mesa Quantum, which is making strides in quantum tech with next-gen atomic clocks and sensors.

SUPPORT BEHIND SUCCESS

Behind their success is support from their initiative Venture Partners at CU Boulder, who help students turn their innovative ideas into successful businesses with tailored mentorship, funding, and resources.

They also have support from their Center for Translational Research and the Embark Deep Tech Startup Creator, which help bridge the gap between research and commercialization.

“Our journey reflects years of careful planning, experimentation and a relentless commitment to supporting our startup founders,” says Bryn Rees, Associate Vice Chancellor for Innovation and Partnerships.
