U.S. News has announced a “preview” of the top ten undergraduate business schools in 2019. Released in alphabetical order, 13 schools were listed as making the top ten, meaning there will be some ties. In addition to all of last year’s top ten, Indiana’s Kelley School of Business, Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business, and the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business will be joining the top ten. The full rankings will be released on September 10.
U.S. News‘ ranking is based solely on the aggregate of “peer assessment surveys” conducted during the spring of 2017 and 2018. In last year’s ranking, the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School took the top spot with a score of 4.8 on a five-point scale. MIT’s Sloan School of Management followed in second with a 4.6. The University of California-Berkeley’s Haas School of Business and the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business tied for third with a score of 4.5.
The U.S. News surveys are sent to deans and senior faculty members at business schools. They are then asked to rate the quality of business programs with which they are familiar on a scale of one (marginal) and five (distinguished). The average score for each school determines where they will place in the rankings. The result of such methodology is similar to what happened this year with little or zero change in top schools.
