To explore this further, online digital marketing course platform Kraftshala recently performed a study with the help of their partner recruiters, Publicis Media, Merkle, Performics, GroupM, and a few others. Kraftshala asked 30 hiring experts from these companies – from CEOs to Digital Marketing Heads – what they look for in candidates. They also analyzed over 200 job listings to see which roles actually require degrees and which AI tools are non-negotiable. Then, they used Google Trends to track what people are searching for.

All in all, they narrowed down the top 7 skills that can outshine a degree.

7 AI SKILLS THAT CAN OUTSHINE A TRADITIONAL DEGREE

1. A Deep Understanding of AI, ML & NLP: Master the fundamentals with TensorFlow, PyTorch, SpaCy, and contribute to open-source platforms like GitHub and Hugging Face.

2. Mastering Generative AI Tools: Go beyond ChatGPT—become fluent in Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and DeepSeek. Use prompt engineering to create Custom GPTs.

3. AI Tools for Data Analysis: Excel isn’t enough. Use BigQuery ML, Power BI, and Tableau Pulse to uncover insights faster with AI-enhanced features.
